Vetements - collection Autumn/Winter 2017/18 in Paris (with interview)

Designer : Demna GvasaliaLocation : Centre Pompidou, ParisInspiration : an identity card as an invitation, a "free" casting of men and women, of every age and genre, Demna evokes people and different social-cultural groups, as clichés, from punk to a posh secretary, from the military to the chic woman in a evening gown...Collection : the idea of building and deconstructing the garment. The military jumpsuit finishes in tatters, the name of the label is embroidered on the denim, and a jacket returns then rebuilt, the trousers and the shoes become one.A way, both particular and edgy, to reinterpret all the basic essentials of a wardrobe. To note : Hidden under her veil, the bride, wearing trousers, so rock and romantic at the same time.Interview with Demna Gvasalia :The casting was based on the idea of different dress codes and social uniforms so we thought what is a what is a granny wearing, what is a secretary, who is this person, how they walk what they look like what are their hobbies it all went into this research to understand who this person is It’s about identity, because what we wear gives a certain identity message, whether we want it to or not, if I dress like a punk you will think I am a punk even though I’m not, it’s interesting how clothes can change what we actual feel or how we want to feel like It’s always about saying what’s for example the parka you’re wearing what can we do to make it Vetements otherwise there is no point for us to work on it. And then we go to concepts, create concepts that create certain twists that are still recognizable as a parka but it’s different.
